Why Chasing the Pro Soccer Dream Matters (Even If You Don’t Get There)
The dream of going pro in soccer is something many young players share.
I remember my son when he was 8 emulating Neymar and Messi. He would get lost in the backyard trying to be like them. It was fun to watch.
As kids get older, they are told to be more realistic. If they want it, they should continue dreaming in my opinion.
Yes, the chances of going pro is slim to none. But, why not try? Maybe it takes you to play for your high school or a college scholarship.
At the least, they’ll collect some great life lessons along the way.
It’s really not about going pro but the journey itself.
5 Reasons To Pursue Pro Soccer
Here are five reasons why the pursuit is worth it:
- Personal Growth and Boldness: Chasing a lofty goal forces you out of your comfort zone. You’ll develop discipline, resilience, and the confidence to take risks—traits that will benefit you on and off the field.
- Building Lifelong Connections: Along the way, you’ll meet teammates, coaches, and mentors who share your passion. These relationships often become a source of inspiration, support, and lifelong friendships.
- Staying Physically and Mentally Strong: The rigorous training and competition required to go pro will keep you in peak physical condition. Additionally, the mental toughness and emotional resilience you build will serve you well later in life.
- Experiencing New Opportunities: At the club level, soccer can open doors to travel and experience new things. Being bold enough to embrace these experiences helps you grow and adapt to life’s challenges.
- Learning Through Failures and Disappointments: Your journey will be filled with ups and downs. How you overcome setbacks and failures will help you develop into a better soccer player (and human).
The journey toward going pro is about much more than the destination.
It’s a path filled with growth, relationships, and memories that shape who you are—and that’s a victory in itself.
Take the leap. Be bold. And enjoy the entire journey (the good and bad).
