Messi to Inter Miami
Update on June 7, 2023: It is literally two hours after we published this article that Messi coming to Inter Miami is now official!
We would love to see Lionel Messi make the move to Inter Miami, a Major League Soccer (MLS) team.
As of today, June 7, 2023, Inter Miami is the clear frontrunner to award Messi his next big contract. The news comes after Messi’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) will end on June 30, 2023.
The six-time Ballon d’Or winner has been courted by several clubs, including FC Barcelona and Al-Hilal, but reports suggest that Inter Miami is winning the race to sign him.
Inter Miami’s offer to Messi is said to have been sweetened by Apple, Adidas, and the MLS, making it a lucrative deal for the 35-year-old.
The move to Inter Miami would be a significant shift for Messi, who has spent his entire professional career playing in Europe.
However, it is not without its challenges. Messi would play his home games at a temporary 18,000-capacity stadium in Fort Lauderdale, which is under the flight path of an international airport.
While there is no official confirmation from either Messi or Inter Miami, the rumors have been circulating for some time. The potential signing of Messi would be a massive coup for the MLS and a significant boost for Inter Miami, who have struggled in their first few seasons in the league.
It remains to be seen how Messi will adapt to the American game, but his arrival would undoubtedly generate excitement and interest in the MLS.
Is it Worth it For Messi to Join Inter Miami?
You would think Barca would be the favorite to land Messi. However, after FC Barcelona’s financial struggles and the departure of former teammate and close friend, Luis Suarez, Messi began to consider other options.
Inter Miami, owned by former Manchester United and Real Madrid star David Beckham, reportedly made Messi an offer he couldn’t refuse, which included a huge yearly salary and additional perks from sponsors such as Apple and Adidas.
If the deal goes through, Messi will join a team that has struggled in its first two seasons in the MLS, finishing 10th and 11th in the Eastern Conference.
However, with the addition of a player of Messi’s caliber, the team could see a significant improvement in its performance and popularity. Not only will MLS players want to join Messi but we could see an influx of European players come to the States as well.
It remains to be seen how Messi will adapt to the MLS and the lifestyle in Miami, but fans around the world are eagerly anticipating his arrival and hoping to see him continue to dazzle on the field.
Potential Impact on Inter Miami
Messi’s arrival would undoubtedly boost Inter Miami’s profile and popularity. The team, which was founded in 2018, has struggled to attract fans and generate excitement in a crowded sports market.
However, with Messi’s star power and global appeal, the team could see a surge in ticket sales, merchandise revenue, and media coverage.
On the field, Messi’s impact would be even more significant. He is a prolific goal scorer and playmaker, with exceptional dribbling skills and vision.
His presence would not only improve Inter Miami’s attack but also elevate the performance of his teammates. Messi’s experience and leadership qualities could also help the team develop a winning mentality and compete at the highest level.
On the other hand, there are also potential risks and challenges associated with signing Messi. He is a high-profile player with a massive salary and transfer fee, which could strain Inter Miami’s finances and limit their ability to invest in other areas of the team.
Moreover, Messi is 35 years old and may not have many years left at the top level, which could limit his long-term impact on the team.
Potential Impact on Messig Going to MLS
Lionel Messi’s potential move to Inter Miami could have a significant impact on Major League Soccer (MLS). Here are a few ways that Messi’s arrival could affect the league:
Increased International Attention
Messi is one of the most recognizable and popular soccer players in the world. His presence in MLS would undoubtedly attract more international attention to the league.
This could result in increased TV ratings, merchandise sales, and sponsorships. It could also help MLS attract more high-profile players in the future.
Boost in Fan Attendance
Fans of Messi and soccer, in general, would be more likely to attend games featuring Inter Miami or other MLS teams that Messi is playing against.
This could help MLS continue its upward trend in attendance numbers.
Improved Quality of Play
Messi’s presence alone in the MLS could raise the level of play in the league. Other players could learn from his skills and experience, and teams could adjust their tactics to try to stop him. This could lead to more competitive and exciting games for fans to watch.
Financial Benefits for MLS
Messi’s potential move to Inter Miami could also have financial benefits for MLS. Inter Miami and the league could generate significant revenue from ticket sales, merchandise, and sponsorships. Additionally, Messi’s presence could help MLS negotiate better TV deals in the future.
Conclusion
Obviously, here in America, we would love to see Messi join a MLS team.
We’ve been saying it for years…soccer in America is on the rise! This would absolutely change the dynamic of professional soccer in the U.S.
We also hope it has a trickle-down effect on youth soccer. We are optimistic that as the popularity of soccer grows so does the number of kids registering.
Is he too old? Is he too good for MLS? Will he dominate? Will he bring over some of his guys like Neymar Jr. and Suarez? Only time will tell but we first hope he lands in Florida.
