What Size Futsal Ball Do You Need?
Futsal is a fast-paced indoor soccer-like sport that requires a ball that is smaller and heavier than a normal soccer ball. The size of the ball you need really depends on your age and skill level.
Futsal balls come in the following sizes: 2, 3 and 4. Size 2 is the smallest and size 3 is the regulation size.
BY AGE GROUP
- Size 2: Ages 5-8
- Size 3: Ages 9-13
- Size 4: Ages 14+
In this quick read, we’ll go through each size and what ages it is ideal for. Let’s get to it!
Understanding Futsal Ball Sizes
When it comes to futsal, the size of the ball is an important consideration. A futsal ball is smaller and heavier than a regular soccer ball, which makes it easier to control and play with on hard surfaces.
In this section, we will discuss the three sizes of futsal balls and which one you should choose based on your age and skill level.
Size 2 Futsal Ball
A size 2 ball is the smallest ball and can be a great training ball for any age. But, these balls are more designed for ages 5-8. The smaller size and heavier weight allow for better ball control and quick, skillful play in the confined space of a futsal court.
Size 3 Futsal Ball
The size 3 futsal ball is an intermediary ball perfect for kids 9 to 13. This ball is a good transitional ball for the next size up. It will feel slightly lighter than a size 3 but you won’t find a huge difference in the size.
Size 4 Futsal Ball
A size 4 futsal ball is the official size. It is designed for players aged 9 and above. The ball has a circumference of 25-26 inches and weighs between 400-440 grams. The ball’s weight and size give it more of a soccer feel but gravity keeps the ball lower. With this ball, there will be less lift.
Choosing the Right Futsal Ball
The size and weight of a futsal ball can greatly impact your performance on the court. Honestly, there’s not too many futsal balls on the market. Here’s our favorite that you should consider purchasing for the upcoming season!
