2024 Copa America Snub List
The 14 venues chosen to host the 2024 Copa America have been selected based on their capacity and location.
Absent from the list are a number of snubs, as some parts of the country were either ignored or underrepresented in this list. No stadium in the Pacific Northwest was selected, despite it being seen as one of the hot spots of American soccer.
The same can be said for the Upper Midwest, with Chicago’s Soldier Field not mentioned.
Ohio, which has seen success with two MLS teams – Columbus Crew (in the 2023 MLS Cup Finals) and FC Cincinnati – also did not have a stadium.
The Northeast saw venues like Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, FedEx Field outside of Washington, DC, and Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts all excluded as well. Other snubs include Baltimore, Denver, and Nashville.
I thought Kansas City was an interesting choice to include two stadiums. Was this the Taylor Swift effect? Probably not. Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kansas City Chiefs NFL team, is on there, as is Children’s Mercy Park across the Missouri River in Kansas City, Kansas.
Also, SoFi Stadium, a venue that reportedly backed out of hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final, will be seeing matches played there.
Two stadiums that are in contention to host the final – MetLife in New Jersey and AT&T in Texas – are each playing matches in the knockout stage. Arlington, Texas, will host the quarterfinal stage of the tournament among others.
What is Copa America?
I just realized you might be wondering what Copa America is. The Copa América, also known as the South American Football Championship, is the oldest international football competition, dating back to 1916.
This tournament is contested by the men’s national teams of the members of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL).
Argentina and Uruguay hold the record for the most championships in the tournament’s history, with 15 titles each.
The competition has a rich history and has undergone various changes since its inception, but it remains a highly anticipated and prestigious event in the world of football.
