Three Clubs Form Inter Philly

A new era for Philadelphia youth soccer has arrived as three established organizations combine their strengths to create something greater than the sum of their parts.
Inter Philly (Philadelphia International Football Club) emerges from the union of Fairmount Soccer Association, Philadelphia City FC, and United Philly Soccer Club—a strategic alliance poised to transform the city’s soccer landscape.
The Power of Three
Rather than competing for resources and talent, these three soccer institutions have made the bold decision to collaborate. Each brings unique strengths to the partnership:
- Fairmount Soccer Association contributed three decades of inclusive programming designed to welcome players of every ability level
- Philadelphia City FC (formerly Palumbo Soccer Club) adds its 20-year legacy of deep community connections and developmental expertise
- United Philly Soccer Club delivers its proven competitive pathway system that has successfully guided players toward high school and collegiate opportunities
Connor Robick, who steps into the role of Co-Executive Director for the new organization, sees transformative potential: “This isn’t just a merger on paper—it’s a reimagining of what youth soccer can be in Philadelphia.”
Beyond the Buzzwords: What Changes?
Unlike typical organizational mergers that promise much but deliver little, Inter Philly’s formation brings immediate benefits:
For competitive players:
- Seamless progression between skill levels without changing clubs
- Exposure to diverse coaching philosophies and techniques
- Enhanced college recruitment visibility through combined networks
For recreational players:
- Age-appropriate programming from toddlers (as young as two) through teens
- Year-round engagement opportunities including seasonal camps
- Multiple convenient training locations throughout Greater Philadelphia
Making the Transition
The folks involved have outlined a thoughtful transition plan to minimize disruption for current players and families:
- Spring 2025: All players remain with current teams and coaches
- March-April 2025: Open tryouts for Fall 2025 season teams
- Fall 2025: Full integration under the Inter Philly banner
“The coming together of these three clubs is really all about the kids of Philadelphia and enriching their lives through the beautiful sport of soccer,” explains Wendy Smith, who joins Robick as Co-Executive Director. “We’re not just maintaining what existed before—we’re building something that can reach more young people with better programs.”
