Cavan Sullivan Officially Signed to Philadelphia Union at Age 14
Big and (not so) surprising news coming out of Philadelphia today. 14-year-old, Cavan Sullivan, has officially signed his first pro contract. The signing is through 2028.
The exact details are still undisclosed but it is a record homegrown deal in Major League Soccer.
Sullivan becomes the fifth youngest player to sign a first-team contract. The four younger players include:
- Maximo Carrizo (NYCFC in 2022) 14 Years, 0 Days
- Axel Kei (Real Salt Lake in 2022) 14 Years, 15 Days
- Freddy Adu (DC United in 2004) 14 Years, 168 Days
- Emmanuel Ochoa (San Jose in 2019) 14 Years, 191 Days
- Cavan Sullivan (Philadelphia in 2024) 14 Years, 224 Days
“His advanced soccer IQ, paired with his ability to read plays, advance the ball, and score, show just how high his ceiling will be. We are incredibly pleased to have come to an agreement to have Cavan join the Union on his first professional contract and have no doubt on the impact he will make with the club.”
– Ernst Tanner, Philadelphia Union Sporting Director
This is great for the soccer community of Philly and the MLS. The more hype and big names that continue in the U.S., the better.
This shows you how well the MLS pathway continues to develop in a positive direction. We are seeing more and more younger athletes signing their pro contracts.
Congrats 👏 Cavan!
