How Long Are Futsal Games?
If you’re new to futsal, you may be wondering how long a game lasts. We’ll explore the length of a typical futsal game, as well as some factors that can affect game time.
A futsal game usually lasts about 40 minutes, split into two 20-minute halves with a 10-15 minute halftime break.
However, the exact length of a game can vary depending on the level of play, the age of the players, and the rules of the league or tournament. For example, my son has played in games where it’s 10 minute halves. These games go by real quick!
Understanding how long a futsal game lasts is important for players, coaches, and parent. Getting a sense can help you manage your team and the player’s energy levels!
Duration of Futsal Games
Like I mentioned above, Futsal, a futsal game typically consists of two halves, with each half lasting 20 minutes. There is a 15-minute break for halftime. The clock usually stops whenever the ball goes out of play or there is a break in play. The clock only starts again when play resumes. This is similar to a sport like basketball.
Regulation Time
A traditional futsal game lasts approximately 40 minutes. However, the laws of futsal do permit some futsal games to have different durations, so long as both teams and the referees mutually agree to alter playing time. This must happen prior to the start of the game and be in accordance with the laws.
Overtime and Penalties
If the score is tied at the end of regulation time, overtime may be required. This is especially true in tournaments if a team needs to move to the next round. The duration of overtime is not fixed and can vary depending on the competition rules. In some cases, a penalty shootout may be used to determine the winner of the game.
